BE SURE YOU ENCOURAGE YOUR FRIEND'S AND FAMILY TO HAVE REGULAR SKIN EXAMINATIONS.
We had a great turn out for our May 2015 Free Community Skin Cancer Screening. This event was supported by the American Academy of Dermatology.
Of the patient's examined, we referred 73% of them to a Dermatologist since 1/3 of individuals had lesions that needed a biopsy, surgery or some other form of treatment. Here are the data from patient's screened: (percentages represent the percentage of patients with those lesions)
Atypical moles or dysplastic nevi 8%
Non melanoma skin cancer, either Basal Cell Carcinoma or Squamous Cell Carcinoma 10%
Actinic Keratoses or precancerous lesions (result of chronic sun damage) 23%
(No obvious Melanoma's were identified at this years screening.)
People who came to the skin cancer screening were given information to learn more about the ABCDs of Melanoma, proper sun protection, and how to do self-examinations. There were also samples of sunscreen and other skin products available for all participants.
