With the passage of time, constant squinting and frowning leaves many of us with unwanted wrinkles on the brow and around the eyes. These frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow's-feet wrinkles can leave us looking tired, angry, and seemingly older than we are. BOTOX® treatments can help reduce the appearance and impede the development of lines and wrinkles caused by repetitive and excessive upper facial muscle movement. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein, derived from the anaerobic Clostridium botulinum bacterium, that has been used for more than 16 years for the reduction of wrinkles. It is administered through a simple injection, and is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States.
BOTOX ® Cosmetic works by blocking acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that causes facial muscles to contract. BOTOX® injections relax the targeted muscles, which in turn smoothes lines on the face. The treatment not only reduces the appearance of existing lines, but also helps slow the further development of lines between the brows. Most commonly used to treat the frown lines between the eyebrows, BOTOX® Cosmetic is also used at our Petaluma and Hercules offices to minimize the appearance of horizontal forehead lines and crow's feet around the eyes.

There are many benefits to BOTOX® treatment. In addition to providing a non-invasive, non-surgical option for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and lines around the eyes, between the brows, and across the forehead, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are quick and easy. The entire BOTOX® treatment procedure typically takes only 15 minutes at our Bay Area centers, and you can return to your normal routine almost immediately.

At the treatment session, our dermatologists carefully examine each individual patient's unique facial anatomy - the interplay of muscular movement and wrinkles. BOTOX® is then very carefully and gently injected to maximize wrinkle relaxation.
Improvement in the appearance of wrinkles begins to appear within about 5 days of your treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic, and continues to improve for up to 2 weeks after the injection. Results typically last from three to six months; follow-up treatments are recommended every four months.

Side effects of the procedure are uncommon and mostly temporary due to the transitory nature of BOTOX® Cosmetic. You may experience slight pain, redness, and bruising related to the injection following treatment. You may also experience temporary eyelid droop, numbness, transient headaches, and, rarely, nausea or flu-like symptoms.
